Authentic Spanish Language Arts (SLA) texts and materials are based
on classic and contemporary literary and expository traditions from
around the Spanish-speaking world.
Guideline 2
Spanish language is used to develop and disseminate knowledge and to encourage intellectual and creative growth.
Guideline 3
Spanish and its varieties reflect the grammatical structures, discourse,
and literary traditions of the Spanish speaking world (poetry, riddles, language play, novels, informational).
Guideline 4
Cultures from the Spanish-speaking world are represented and embedded in both Spanish and English materials.
Guideline 5
Spanish materials are aligned with state standards to ensure rigor and
access to complex and challenging ideas and content.
Guideline 6
Translations, when included, are used judiciously.
Guideline 7
Translations follow the cadence/ prosody and linguistic/literacy
structures of Spanish for narrative and expository texts.
Guideline 8
Spanish resources for both teachers and students are equally available and equitable to those provided in English.
