What We Do To Support Professional Learning

Implementation through curriculum-based professional learning is essential to support the academic success of multilingual learners.

The Challenge

Adopting high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) is only the first step. Even the best materials must be implemented in tandem with curriculum-based professional learning. Professional learning plans must integrate the assets and needs of multilingual learners, empowering educators to utilize materials that effectively support all students.

How we help

ELSF’s mission is to increase the supply of HQIM that genuinely support the needs of multilingual learners. But, we know implementation is an essential piece of the puzzle. ELSF partners with organizations, and states and districts to provide support in ensuring curriculum-based professional learning includes research-based practices that address the needs of multilingual learners.

Outcomes

Prioritizing multilingual learners throughout all components of curriculum-based professional learning provider’s strategy helps states and districts meet their equity goals. ELSF is proud to work at a systems level in partnership with core professional learning organizations to support the research around multilingual learner-focused professional learning and to help identify and promote transparency in curriculum-based professional learning that truly supports multilingual learners.

What our partnerships look like

Rivet Education

Multilingual learner badge

This partnership will enhance Rivet's Professional Learning Partner Guide to support education leaders in making informed decisions to identify providers with expertise in addressing the needs of multilingual learners.

Research Partnership for Professional Learning (RPPL)

Professional Learning Research

ELSF is partnering with RPPL as their first affiliate to specialize in the needs of multilingual learners to better understand what features in professional learning benefit multilingual learners.

As more educators work in classrooms with increasing numbers of multilingual learners, professional learning organizations must also adapt. Professional learning providers must incorporate the needs and assets of these students in ways that are inclusive, coherent and sustainable.
