ELs Reading in the Content Areas - An Urgent Equity Issue
Do’s and Don’ts to support multilingual learners in developing their understanding of non-fiction texts across content areas
To support ELs in grappling productively with texts, ELSF has developed a 3-step reading protocol. Originally designed as part of a 5th grade science curriculum to support the science learning and language development of multilingual learners, the purposes and instructional strategies are applicable to non-fiction texts in all content areas. This resource also includes a list of Dos and Don’ts to facilitate implementation of the reading protocol.
