Theresa Brunker
English Language Instructor, Central Wyoming College
Theresa Brunker earned her MA/ESL from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. Her research interests involved investigations into the language of mathematics and Systemic Functional Linguistics. She co-taught mathematics and science classes, in which half the students were ELs, at an urban International Baccalaureate middle school and conducted classroom research while incorporating writing skills into the math curriculum. As an ESL professional, she worked across disciplines to develop teacher awareness for best practices for ELs.
Theresa has presented her research and experiences at numerous MinneTESOL conferences as well as the NCTM national conference. She was featured in a WIDA Focus on Scaffolding Learning for Multilingual Students in Math (2018).
She is currently an adjunct English Language instructor at Central Wyoming College, expanding her interests in advocating for linguistically diverse students in the community college setting. She seeks opportunities for collaboration in the area of science education and preparation of students in the medical field. Theresa loves to combine working directly with students and working with teaching colleagues to promote best practices for working with linguistically diverse students.
