Laura Moreno is the English Learner Coordinator, at The Learning Choice Academy (TLC) Homeschool/Independent Studies K-12 Charter School in San Diego County. Here she works with administrators, educators, students and families in the area of Second Language Development. She is responsible for providing professional development for administrators/educators, coordinating and administering the ELPAC/CELDT testing, teaching newcomer students, and offering Parent Training. Additionally, she is the Lead Mentor for new teachers working through the Induction Program through High Tech High International University. Prior to joining TLC, she worked at San Diego County Office of Education, where she was a professional developer, GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Development) Certified Trainer in the English Learner Department, where her team was responsible for the rolling out of the first professional development for both the Common Core State Standards and English Learner Development Standards in training in San Diego County Office of Education to 42 school districts.
Laura received a B.A. in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Bilingual Bicultural Studies teaching credential from San Diego State University (SDSU) and an M.A. in Educational Administration also from SDSU. She is currently coordinating a Summer Migrant Education Tutoring program for students through San Diego County Office of Education as an Educational Consultant. Laura lives at home with her 23-year-old CNA nurse daughter Arissa, who is working towards her RN degree to do missionary work in Latin American countries and her 20-year old son, Giovanni, who is doing an internship in Sports Medicine.
