Dr. Alma Castro

Director, California Initiatives

Dr. Alma Castro serves as the Vice President for the Lynwood Unified School District Board, and President for the Los Angeles County School Trustee Association. For twenty years, Dr. Castro has proudly served in PK-12 public schools as a Teacher and School Administrator. She is actively engaged in legislative advocacy on Education policy at a local, state and national level. Dr. Castro serves on the California School Board Association (CSBA) Legislative Committee, and is a CSBA Delegate for her region.

She teaches master level courses at the CSU Long Beach, for the Teacher Education Department. One of her biggest passions is removing barriers in education to close the achievement gap, advocating for multilingual students, and advocating for educational equity to improve student outcomes.

Dr. Castro has a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from CSULB. She earned an M.Ed. in Teacher Education at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and a B.A. in Sociology. She obtained an M.A. in School Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). She is a proud Latina servant leader, mother of a teenage daughter, and one of nine children of immigrant parents from Jalisco, Mexico.
