Dana Siegel, a K-5 ESL teacher in TN, has taught for the past 36 years. After receiving her B.A. from St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans and attending graduate school while teaching in TX, she moved to CA, where she completed her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction at National University and ESL Credential. Recognizing she needed more tools in her teacher tool belt while teaching ELs in South Central, she became a certified Reading Recovery Teacher Leader, teaching struggling readers and graduate level classes in literacy. Moving to TN, she returned to the role she loves best- teaching ELs. Her ESL program has an emphasis on combining language proficiency with content and was identified by the U.S. Department of Education as a Promising/Model ESL program in 2012. Dana has served on local, state and national ESL committees and is currently a Hope Street Group TAC Fellow. She has been known to sneak ESL texts into her suitcase before leaving on trips with her husband and son.
