Amy Burhop is an English language development teacher and team specialist who has 9 years of experience working with English learners in grades 2-12. She currently teaches advanced ELD to long-term English learners and serves as the scaffolds and supports team lead at Farrell B. Howell K-8 in Denver Public Schools. In her role as a team lead, she supports her colleagues with sheltered instruction through instructional coaching. Additionally, she designs and facilitates school-wide professional development sessions and serves as a model classroom for both building and district-wide professional development. Amy studied Spanish and secondary education at Michigan State University where she was afforded the opportunity to attend two different universities in Spanish-speaking countries. It was through her experiences as a second language learner that she became motivated to teach English language development and work to improve school-wide systems and instructional supports for linguistically diverse students and their teachers.
